What’s New — August 2008

Carrollton Station Gig

August 2 — Thanks to everyone who came out for the show at Carrollton Station. It was a fun night, with Mark Edwards doing a great job backing me up on harmonies, harmonica, and a bunch of percussion (including drums, tambourine, desiccant shaker and, on done song, cowbell). We had a great time playing for old and new friends and a couple of tipsy dancers.

A New New Orleans Song

June 5 — I debuted a new song at Carrollton Station’s songwriter open mike, “Don’t Take Your Baby to the Jazzfest,” and it got a good reception. The song, my attempt to reduce crowd congestion at the Jazzfest, is a simple two-chorder with a melody that for better or worse gets stuck in your head. Here's a lo-fi version, and here are the lyrics.

Newish Songs Available For Download

March — My new download-only EP, This Will All Seem Funny, is now available from cdbaby, iTunes and other downloading sites.

The EP includes six new songs recorded at Chris Harris’ basement studio last summer: “Semi-Suicidal,” “I Think We Need to Talk,” “This Will All Seem Funny,” “The Capo Song,” “Wallet and Keys,” and “I Forgot.”

The songs feature Jonah Kraut on electric guitar, pedal steel guitar, bass and harmony vocals; Rob Huffman on mandolin, acoustic guitar and harmony vocals; and Ryan Barrett on drums. Chris produced the sessions and did the mixing and mastering. You can stream the first four on my Myspace page. Lyrics and liner notes are here.

It costs about $5 or $6 to download the EP. The recording went well, so check out the tunes and download them if you like what you hear.
