Who the Hell Is Steve Mardon?
Cheesy Promo Picture I’m a songwriter who plays acoustic guitar. I like to mix up the song styles — basically it’s a blend of country, folk, blues, and rock, with an occasional flash of bluegrass and reggae (not on the same song). In August 2007, I moved from Somerville, Mass., to New Orleans. My influences range from Gram Parsons to Graham Parker.

So far I’ve written about 50 songs. My tunes tend to be funny — they’re not always meant to be but that’s the way they come out. Songs that people seem to like best include “Coffee & Beer,” “Critic’s Darling,” “New Girl at the Office,” “Short-Term Romance, Long-Term Pain,” “Right on Red,” “I Think We Need to Talk (Six Words Nobody Wants to Hear),” “This Will All Seem Funny,” and “When I’m Drunk.”

Depending on the venue and the gig, I play shows solo, with a full band, or somewhere in between (duo or trio). My Massachusetts band, the Egregious Typos, consisted of Jonah Kraut on electric guitar, Rob Huffman on bass, and Ryan Barrett or Chris Harris on drums. In addition, Mercy James (bass, electric guitar, drums, and harmonica), Alison Darrow (harmony vocals), Barry Edwards (electric guitar), Steve Latt (fiddle), Josh Pierson (banjo), Louis Kaplan (banjo), Janine Sirignano (fiddle), Johnny Mac (harmonica), Kevin Quinn (bass), Rich Piccarreto (guitar), and Emily Jackson (drums) played with me at various times.

I mostly play original tunes but toss in occasional covers of old country tunes and songs by my favorite songwriters. For more, check out The Steve Mardon Interview.
